Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a holiday that celebrates and honors Native American people and honors their histories and cultures. This day has been a long-time coming. There are 574 federally recognized tribes living within the US today, according to Wikipedia. Many live on Native American reservations or are mixed into today’s American culture. Whether you are 100% Native American or just a portion, October 11 is the perfect day to celebrate your culture.
On October 8, 2021, U.S. President Joe Biden, the first U.S. President to formally recognize the holiday, signed a presidential proclamation declaring October 11 to be a national holiday.
Some of the Native American tribes are Sioux, Cherokee, Apache, Comanche, Navajo, Miami, and others.
As we all know, capturing a portrait of those we want to celebrate, cherish, and honor is one of the most important things we can do.
