Also, it is also men who are impacted by breast cancer, although it is very rare. My father is also a survivor and I am super proud to be his daughter 🙂

meet kendra Frorup

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and so I would like to celebrate one amazing individual who touched my heart and the hearts of many, Kendra Frorup. I got a chance to meet Kendra through her husband Norman and we instantly connected. 
 
Kendra is an international artist with a research focus on the global conversation about connections and identity in art. Her interest is the Caribbean and Africa. She teaches art at the University of Tampa and she traveled the world exhibiting her sculpture. 
 
I then learned about her fight with breast cancer and her love for life. 
She never gave up. Surrounded by her family and friends she was never alone.
And she has a lot more life to live and much still to do 🙂

Professor at UT - Bahamian multi-media artist who focuses on printmaking and sculpture - Internationally known artist

“As an artist and educator who grew up in the Bahamas, I have always been interested in the influences of culture on expression. I feel that culture creates the field from which we draw formal and intuitive responses.
 
My Bahamian heritage creates a sense of identity; my artwork reflects who I am. As an Afro-Caribbean, the opportunity to study, work, exhibit and volunteer in Africa, a country that is part of my heritage, offered a rich opportunity to connect with the past and integrate new references and process into the work that I create”

Photoshoot Behind the Scenes with Kendra at the University of Tampa

We had so much fun during the photoshoot. We met on a day when no one was around, during the summer break. Along with me I also came Danielle Townsend who is an amazing makeup and hair stylist. She always does an incredible job helping highlight the best features of my clients. We settled in one of the smaller rooms to do the makeup and wardrobe part but then we walked around the entire building and other parts of the campus as well. 
It was so much fun!
