Jamie Carrasquilla is the owner of Vino Ghvino, offering a Georgian Wines here in the Tampa Bay area. As a female business owner, Jamie is a rarity. Only 4% of women winemakers in a cited study also owned their own wine brands. And not only she owns her own business, she made it all happen bringing wine all the way from Georgia.
Georgia is one of the world’s oldest wine-producing regions, since residual evidence of winemaking was found on fragments of 8,000-year-old qvevri. For thousands of years winemaking in Georgia took place in the home, with families filling up their personal qvevri with hand-picked indigenous grapes.
